Social media may not be your thing but its alright. It might be a little time consuming since you have to keep up with your daily or even weekly blogs and your Facebook and twitter posts. Even if you’re not tech-savvy dentists who twitter in real time about oral surgery or dental implants, you can benefit from hooking up with your favorite dental news sources online. Look at it this way…
Social Networking = Networking online, socially or professionally.
Social media = News sources online.
Not a social networker? Don’t worry you can still take advantage of online news stories by hooking up with social media sources. Facebook and twitter are both free. All you have to do is sign up for you own page. Once you’ve done that, you can be as active or inactive as you like. When you have time, you may want to add a photo, find friends and share updates about yourself. If you do NOT want emails about posts on your social media networks, be sure to disable email alerts on your profile.
Removing wisdom teeth might improve early periodontal (gum) disease, a study suggests.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, did the study. It involved 69 people who had at least two wisdom teeth removed. Dentists often call these teeth “third molars.”
Before the teeth were removed, about half the people in the study had early periodontal disease around the back sides of their second molars. The second molars sit just in front of the wisdom teeth.
People who had their lower wisdom teeth taken out were less likely to still have periodontal disease nine months later. Only 2 out of 10 people had it, compared with nearly 7 out of 10 people who did not have teeth removed.
The average age of the people in the study was 26.
Many people get their wisdom teeth removed in their late teens. But in some people, the wisdom teeth don’t cause problems. Still, some dentists suggest removing them anyway. Because they are far back in the mouth, they can be harder to reach.
This study showed that gum health improved right away after extraction. The patients were followed for about nine months.
The study does not show whether removing wisdom teeth improves gum health of nearby teeth for a longer period of time. Periodontal disease takes many years to develop.
The study appears in the February issue of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

This is for all you people out there who have videos on YouTube. But the file size is through the roof and it probably takes forever to upload it on there. Here are a few simple steps how you can reduce the file size tremendously! You will need to open your video file in Windows Movie Maker.
1) After you have opened Windows Movie Maker, go ahead and click on import video.

2) Select the video file you want to reduce.

3) After importing your video file, drag it into the timeline.
4) After you’re finished editing the video if you desired to Click Save to My Computer under Finish Movie.
5) In the window that opens after you hit Save to My Computer click on Show More Choices, it’s going to be highlighted in blue.
6) After you hit next, on the next screen select best fit to file size. 30 MB is a pretty decent file size. After you’re finished hit Next
7) Hit finish and you’re done.
I’ve reduced my file size from 700 MB to around 14 MB. It’s amazing! Sometimes the format needs to be changed to .WMV or .AVI because Windows Movie Maker only supports a couple video formats so if you guys need me to make a tutorial on that let me know. Happy Reducing!
It seems like now-a-days everyone is using all these fancy social media website, i.e. (Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc..) It is even being used by many businesses as to promote their products or build a list. Which is actually a very smart idea, many people are very successful today because of social media. I want to show you guys a chart of Facebook Demographics. This is the US Audience Growth Rate in the Last 30 Days. As you can see the fastest growing audience is Females, 55-65 at an 8.4 percent growth rate. Which is pretty amazing to me.

1. Think Lemonade: Don’t complicate things. The business of dentistry is like a lemonade stand – you recognize customers needs, you offer a great product and service, you make the consumer aware of your product, then you make it affordable and convenient. You must manage your plan, your resources and your finances for success.
2. Manage Well: You’ve heard Benjamin Franklin’s saying, “Drive the business or the business will drive you.” Think about it – build your business like a high-performance car. Engineer it, put every part in it’s proper place, give it great aesthetics, and make it different an better than the rest. When everything is centered on maximum performance, you will easily climb into your office and gently manipulate the wheel. Everyday business can and should run this smoothly with patients enjoying the ride.
3. Avoid Micro-Managing: Superior management depends on leadership and requires little more than motivation other people. Many dentists complain that their staff is just not motivated and they blame them for problems and poor results. As unmotivated staff is symptomatic of weak management. Dentists are only as good as the people around then so find quality staff, with positive chemistry, and delegate as much responsibility as possible.
4. Keep Evolving: As dentists, we struggle with the awful evil of pride. It keeps us from happiness and hinders our ability to succeed. We find it uncomfortable to listen to the advice of others. All advice, whether wise or foolish, is profitable.
5. Get Help: The reason most dentists are struggling in business is because they are Ill equipped with a lack of formal education, are too busy to engage in mentorship, and are not learning modern practice management ideas to prosper in the midst of drastic changes in the business of dentistry. Dentists are compromising clinical success because they’re stressing over business. hen it comes down to it, business is like any other learned skill. very few have a natural aptitude for it. If you are a dentist who is not a “natural” understand that the next best thing is handling business yourself is having the intelligence to find someone who can handle it for you. So let’s face it, dentistry and business go hand in hand and we no longer have the luxury of separating the two. Dentistry is becoming an increasingly more competitive business and those who fail to morph, to transform quickly between the roles of clinician and business person, will struggle. Those who do morph will enjoy a new kind of success and prosperity.
When is a dentist more afraid of a patient than the normal way around? When the patient is a 28 stone gorilla with a tooth-ache.
Animal dentist, Peter Kertesz, was called out to Paignton Zoo to see Pertinax, a silverback Western gorilla who had a broken canine tooth.
He needed to remove the three inch root and understandably didn’t think it was suitable for the beast to attend his London practice where he also works on humans, for a start the chair wasn’t going to be big enough.
So Kertesz assembled a team including his dental nurse, zoo vets and the great ape keepers to help him sedate Pertinax and perform the operation at the zoo.
The op took about two hours and Pertinax was understandably groggy afterwards but is now back to his normal self.
“Animals or people, it’s all the same – they need treatment, they get treatment. The scale is what varies – and the location. It is all about teamwork,” said the dentist.
“People ask if this is just a bit of fun, but it is a very serious business – the health and sometimes the life of a rare creature is in your hands.”
Kertesz has worked on a range of exotic species – including gorillas, pandas, elephants and whales (wait, can someone check if all those animals even have teeth).
